Man Utd cannot ignore more dropped points despite positives

Manchester United left Everton frustrated after conceding a dramatic late equaliser in a 2-2 Premier League draw at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Michael Carrick's side led twice but were unable to protect their advantage until the final whistle.

United took the lead shortly after half-time through Bryan Mbeumo. Everton responded late in the game when Tyrique George produced a powerful finish to level the score. Benjamin Sesko then restored Manchester United's advantage with a header, scoring his first goal of the season after an injury had disrupted the beginning of his campaign.

Just when United appeared set to leave with three points, Everton debutant Ainsley Maitland-Niles produced a spectacular long-range strike in stoppage time to make it 2-2. The goal transformed the mood inside the stadium and left United disappointed after controlling significant periods of the contest.

There were still several encouraging aspects for Carrick. Kobbie Mainoo continued his positive start to the campaign, while Marcus Rashford played with purpose before leaving the match during the second half. Luke Shaw was also influential on the left and supplied the cross from which Sesko scored United's second goal.

The larger concern is Manchester United's defensive record. The club have now conceded twice in each of their opening three league matches and have collected only four points from a possible nine. Carrick acknowledged that his team must reduce the number of goals they concede if they want to turn promising performances into victories.

The schedule is also about to become more demanding. United are preparing for their return to Champions League action against Sabah FK before facing Manchester City, with four matches scheduled across an 11-day period. The team have shown encouraging signs, but further dropped points will increase the pressure as the season develops.
