iPhone 18 Pro Max battery rumors: it could be a record-breaking year for Apple

Apple could be preparing one of its biggest battery-life improvements yet with the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max. Recent reports suggest that the flagship model may combine a larger physical battery with major efficiency gains from Apple's next-generation processor.

The rumored battery capacity ranges between approximately 5,391 mAh and 5,567 mAh depending on the model and region. If accurate, that would represent an increase of roughly ten percent compared with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which used a battery of around 5,088 mAh in its eSIM configuration.

The larger battery is only part of the story. Apple is expected to introduce the A20 Pro processor manufactured using TSMC's 2-nanometer process. The smaller manufacturing process is expected to improve energy efficiency while also providing additional performance for demanding applications and artificial intelligence features.

Early reports suggest that the A20 Pro could consume significantly less power than the previous generation. Combined with the increased battery capacity, this could allow the iPhone 18 Pro Max to approach or even exceed the 20-hour mark in intensive battery tests.

The current iPhone 17 Pro Max already performed strongly in Tom's Guide testing, lasting nearly 18 hours during continuous web browsing over a cellular connection. A larger battery and a more efficient processor could therefore produce a meaningful improvement rather than a minor year-to-year increase.

Apple has traditionally relied heavily on hardware and software efficiency instead of simply installing the largest possible battery. The iPhone 18 Pro Max appears likely to continue that strategy, combining additional capacity with improvements in chip architecture and power management.

For now, the battery specifications remain based on leaks and reports rather than final specifications from Apple. More details are expected when Apple officially presents its next generation of premium iPhones.
